Sporting, Play and Recreational Provision

All across the Wakefield district there are numerous opportunities for children, young people and adults alike to get involved in a wide range of sporting, play and recreational activities.  Whether you are interested in getting fit, keeping fit, wanting to compete in some kind of energetic sport or seeking a more sedate form of recreational activity we can help you find just what you are looking for.

The Families Information Service (FIS) holds information on sporting activities such as bowling, cricket, football, golf, rugby, squash, swimming, tennis and other sports including the various martial arts.

We also have information on a range of other activities including amatuer dramatics, arts and crafts, cookery, dance, gymnastics, photography, singing, uniformed groups, walking, yachting and more.

So if you are looking for things to do, places to go or want to find out what provision there is in the area where you live or anywhere in the district contact the FIS on 0800 587 8042 or alternatively you could search the Family Services Directory (see Related Links).

Also, the Wakefield Able2 Clubs link provides information on sports for young disabled people held at the Featherstone Sports Centre which includes football, swimming, boccia and wheelchair basketball.
